How Much Does a Shopify Mobile App Cost?

There is no single price for a Shopify mobile app. You are choosing a cost model: a builder subscription, an agency project, or a custom team that stays on the hook after launch. Apple and Google charge their own account fees on top, no matter which path you pick.
Appziot is not automatically the cheapest way to have something on a phone. A solid mobile website can cost less if that is all you need. A custom app can be the right spend when a builder cannot do the job. The useful question is what you are buying, and what you will still be paying next year.
The costs that show up on every path
- Apple Developer Program: $99 USD per year, billed by Apple.
- Google Play Console: a one-time $25 USD registration, billed by Google.
- Time for screenshots, a privacy policy URL, and review questions.
- Someone who can change the app after launch, whether that is you in a dashboard or a developer on a contract.
Those store fees are small next to design and engineering. They are also easy to forget until a launch date depends on an account that is still in someone else’s name.
App builder
You pay a subscription. In return you get a shopping app connected to Shopify, an editor, and whatever push, themes, and publishing help that vendor actually includes. You avoid staffing iOS and Android yourself. You accept the product’s limits.
Appziot publishes three plans. Lite is $29 per month or $290 per year. Starter is $99 per month or $990 per year. Growth is $199 per month or $1,990 per year. Annual billing skips two months. All three include a 30-day free trial. Billing runs through Shopify. Details are on the pricing page.
Lite covers the app itself, Shopify sync, branded design, and analytics, without push. Starter adds push and core widgets. Growth adds more widgets, rich push, priority support, and the option to remove Appziot branding. If a quote from another builder only arrives after a demo, write down what is included before you compare the monthly number.
Agency
An agency might configure a builder for you, or it might subcontract a custom app. The fee covers their time: design, setup, store listing, and sometimes a retainer. Ask who owns the Apple and Google accounts, who can log into the editor, and what happens if you stop the retainer.
This can be worth it if nobody on your team wants to touch layouts. It is a poor trade if you still cannot change a banner without opening a ticket.
Custom development
A custom iOS and Android app means designers, engineers, and QA, then a maintenance budget for OS updates, store rejections, and bugs. The first invoice is not the whole cost. If the contractor leaves and the certificates live on their laptop, the app becomes expensive in a different way.
We are not going to invent a dollar range for that project. Quotes vary with catalog complexity, integrations, and how unusual the app is. Get a written scope that includes both platforms and at least a year of maintenance, then compare that number with a few years of a builder subscription. The decision guide is builder vs custom development.
Design, and what “done” excludes
Even with a builder you spend time on brand, screenshots, and the words on the store listing. A custom project usually adds a design phase before anyone writes code. Neither path includes your Shopify apps, your 3PL, or a loyalty program you have not set up. The app can only use what the store already does.
A simple way to compare
| You are paying for | Builder | Custom or agency build |
|---|---|---|
| First version of a shopping app | Subscription and your setup time | Project fee |
| iOS and Android upkeep | Included in the plan, within the product | Ongoing engineering |
| Changing a homepage banner | Usually you, in the editor | Often a ticket or a release |
| Apple and Google accounts | You still pay Apple and Google | You still pay Apple and Google |
| A feature the product cannot do | Not included. Do not expect it. | This is what the project is for |
Where Appziot fits
If you want to know whether a shopping app is worth it, a 30-day trial on a published price is a smaller experiment than a custom build. Appziot is that kind of experiment: Shopify stays the catalog, you edit the app, and you can cancel in Shopify billing. If the trial shows you need something the editor cannot do, you learned that without commissioning the whole app first.
Frequently asked questions
Is a Shopify app builder cheaper than a custom app?
Often at the start, because you are paying a subscription instead of an engineering project. It is not automatically cheaper over several years, and it is the wrong savings if you need features the builder does not have.
What does Appziot cost?
Lite is $29 per month or $290 per year. Starter is $99 per month or $990 per year. Growth is $199 per month or $1,990 per year. Annual billing skips two months. All three plans include a 30-day free trial. Apple and Google developer fees are separate.
Are there costs after the app is approved?
Yes. The builder subscription or your maintenance contract continues, and the Apple Developer Program renews yearly. You also spend time on merchandising, push, and the occasional store update.
